Room 204 is an inclusion classroom and utilizes a co-teaching model. Co-teaching is the practice of pairing teachers together in a classroom to share the responsibilities of planning, instructing, and assessing students. In a co-teaching setting, the teachers are considered equally responsible and accountable for the classroom. Co-teaching is often implemented with general and special education teachers paired together as part of an initiative to create a more inclusive classroom (Nathan Trites).
Our classroom believes in the power of YET! One of our most important goals in this classroom will be to develop a growth mindset. When something seems challenging, often times we hear students quickly say that they "can't do something". This year, I will support my students to overcome their challenges, to learn that with determination we can achieve anything, and to use more positive language, such as "I can't...YET". Students will learn strategies and build a toolbox to pull from when they encounter a problem or something challenging.
